Ce traitement du sujet par le biais de l\u2019histoire des techniques appelle des propositions vari\u00e9es mobilisant l\u2019histoire, l\u2019histoire des sciences et des techniques, l\u2019arch\u00e9ologie et l\u2019arch\u00e9om\u00e9trie, dans une perspective souvent interdisciplinaire, parfois diachronique.<br \/>\nL\u2019objet de ce colloque est de confronter plusieurs cas de figure dans leur diversit\u00e9 de l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque contemporaine. Le th\u00e8me am\u00e8ne \u00e0 consid\u00e9rer les adaptations des formes ou des mat\u00e9riaux du contenant, au contenu et aux usages (domestiques, scientifiques, commerciaux, m\u00e9trologiques, cultuels, m\u00e9dicaux, etc.). Quelles contraintes de transport et de conservation sont impos\u00e9es par un liquide consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme pr\u00e9cieux, rare, pur, th\u00e9rapeutique, co\u00fbteux, corruptible, toxique ou explosif ? En quoi le choix ou la r\u00e9utilisation des contenants influencent-t-ils les usages, la commercialisation et la consommation de certains liquides ? Quels savoirs entrent en jeu dans l\u2019\u00e9laboration de nouveaux contenants ? Comment la conciliation de fonctions distinctes (conservation, transport, mesure notamment) s&rsquo;est-elle traduite dans les choix techniques ? Les techniques de fabrication des objets ne peuvent \u00eatre exclues, car elles sont susceptibles de participer aux interactions qui s\u2019op\u00e8rent entre le contenant et le contenu. Plus largement, l\u2019\u00e9tude de la conservation des liquides, en particulier dans sa mat\u00e9rialit\u00e9, am\u00e8ne l\u2019historien.ne, l\u2019arch\u00e9ologue ou l\u2019arch\u00e9om\u00e8tre \u00e0 mettre en \u00e9vidence les milieux et des circulations techniques dans la longue dur\u00e9e. Les infrastructures et les p\u00e9riodes pr\u00e9historiques, quoiqu\u2019aussi concern\u00e9es par ce sujet, ne seront pas trait\u00e9es dans ce colloque.<br \/>\nCe colloque est organis\u00e9 par le GDR 2092 TPH \u00ab Techniques et production dans l&rsquo;histoire \u00bb du CNRS ( https:\/\/tph.hypotheses.org\/ ) qui rassemble 22 laboratoires en France et \u00e0 l&rsquo;international, 6 structures patrimoniales et 223 chercheur.e.s, et entend d\u00e9velopper les approches historiques des techniques dans le cadre des interactions interdisciplinaires, transp\u00e9riodiques et transnationales. La locution \u00ab dans l\u2019histoire \u00bb est le signe que nous prenons nos distances avec une approche disciplinaire \u00e9troite : nos objets d\u2019\u00e9tude appartiennent au pass\u00e9, mais la discipline ne se limite pas \u00e0 l\u2019histoire. L\u2019arch\u00e9ologie, les sciences sociales (dont l\u2019anthropologie), la philosophie, l\u2019\u00e9pist\u00e9mologie, la mus\u00e9ologie ainsi que les sciences exp\u00e9rimentales et les sciences de l\u2019ing\u00e9nieur construisent le champ de recherche appel\u00e9 histoire des techniques.<br \/>\nScientific Summary<br \/>\nContaining liquids or fluids for preservation, transport, but also to \u00ab\u00a0mature,\u00a0\u00bb improve, or transform them, is a technical challenge which has been met since antiquity using a wide variety of materials: ceramics, wood, glass, metal, cardboard, leather, etc. Adding to the diversity of materials used to make containers is the multitude of liquids packaged therein: water, milk, oil, alcoholic beverages, perfume, honey, pitch, fertilizers, etc. At the intersection of these objects and products, the relationship between container and contents is a classical object of study, often addressed through the lens of quality or origin to define commercial trends, or even fashions.<br \/>\nThis symposium proposes to renew these approaches by exploring the relationship between containers and contents with a focus on techniques. We aim to highlight the commonalities present in the long history of processes used to contain liquids, study simultaneous occurrences and innovations, as well as the many successes and failures in the preservation and transport of liquids. This approach through the lens of the history of technology calls for a variety of proposals, drawing on history, the history of science and technology, archaeology, and archaeometry, often from an interdisciplinary, sometimes diachronic perspective.<br \/>\nThe aim of this symposium is to examine several case studies from Antiquity to the present day. The theme leads us to consider the adaptations of container forms or materials to their contents and uses (domestic, scientific, commercial, metrological, religious, medical, etc.). What transportation and preservation constraints are imposed by a liquid considered to be precious, rare, pure, therapeutic, expensive, corruptible, toxic, or explosive? How does the choice or reuse of containers influence the uses, marketing, and consumption of certain liquids? What knowledge is involved in the development of new containers? How did the existence of distinct functions (preservation, transport, and measurement, in particular) translate into technical choices? The manufacturing techniques of objects cannot be excluded from analysis, as they contributed to the interactions between container and contents. More broadly, the study of liquid preservation, especially its material aspects, leads historians, archaeologists, and archaeometrists to highlight environments and technical exchanges over long periods. Infrastructure and prehistoric periods, although also relevant to this topic, will not be addressed in this conference.<br \/>\nThis symposium is organized by the GDR 2092 TPH \u00ab\u00a0Techniques et production dans l&rsquo;histoire\u00a0\u00bb (Techniques and Production in History) of the CNRS (https:\/\/tph.hypotheses.org\/), which brings together 22 French and international laboratories, 6 heritage institutions, and 223 researchers. It aims to develop historical approaches to techniques within the framework of interdisciplinary, transperiodical, and transnational interactions. The mention \u00ab\u00a0dans<br \/>\nl\u2019histoire\u00a0\u00bb (\u00ab\u00a0in history\u00a0\u00bb) indicates that we are distancing ourselves from a narrow disciplinary approach: our objects of study belong to the past, but the discipline is not limited to history.
